Leadership
Engineering leadership builds the environment in which teams decide well on their own: a strategy that bounds the space for judgment, management that matches the uncertainty of the work, and interfaces that make local responsibility possible. When a team adopts AI, the gains depend on that environment more than on the tool.

Our position. We hold that agents change the organization around the code more than the code itself. When AI adoption fails, that is a leadership failure, not a technology failure. Leadership has three responsibilities in it: unlock usage, make adoption visible and reduce fear (leadership and AI adoption (opens in a new tab)).
The evidence points the same way. AI amplifies the practices a team already has (DORA 2025 report), and company-level gains stay small while teams keep their old sizes, sprints and roles (Moving away from Agile). Changing those is a leadership decision.
How do leaders shape the environment teams work in?
- Dynamic-robust organization — strategy as a bounded space for judgment, management modes that match uncertainty, and interfaces that support self-organization.
- Leading AI Adoption — the five things a leader controls when a team adopts agents, and the measurement trap that turns a good adoption into a bad one.
